For website owners

The Fairhands bot

If you found this address in your server logs, a business owner probably asked Fairhands to read their own business’s website. This page explains what was fetched, why, and how to opt out.

How it identifies itself

Requests from Fairhands carry this user-agent:

Mozilla/5.0 (compatible; Fairhands/1.0; +https://fairhands.ai/bot)

When it runs

Fairhands is an AI chief of staff for local businesses. It only reads a website when a business owner using Fairhands points it at their business’s site, or when the site is listed on that business’s public Google listing. That happens:

  • once when the owner sets up Fairhands, to draft a profile of the business: its services, prices, hours, tone, logo, colors, and photos the owner may want to use in posts;
  • later, only if the owner asks Fairhands to import photos or the logo from their website.

It doesn’t follow links across the web, doesn’t index pages for search, and doesn’t train AI models on what it reads.

What it fetches

Pages read by Claude

To fill in services and prices, Fairhands may also ask Claude, Anthropic’s AI model, to read up to three pages of the same site, such as a menu or prices page. It does the same when the home page can’t be read directly. Those requests are made by Anthropic’s web fetch tool, come from Anthropic’s servers and don’t carry the user-agent above. They are limited to the site’s own domain.

How to opt out

Add a group for Fairhands to your site’s robots.txt. Fairhands checks it before reading your site, and when it is disallowed it reads nothing from the site and doesn’t ask Claude to read it either:

User-agent: Fairhands
Disallow: /

Fairhands follows groups that name Fairhands. It doesn’t apply rules written for all bots (User-agent: *), because it only reads a site when a person asks it to, like someone opening the page in a browser.
